Western Australia’s Attorney-General Tony Buti has appointed a family law specialist with more than 20 years of experience to serve as a magistrate of the state’s Family Court.
Bringing more than two decades of family law experience to the bench, Nicole Croft (pictured) has been appointed as a magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Western Australia, where she will serve within the Family Court jurisdiction.
The experienced barrister and solicitor will commence in the role on 1 July, stepping into a vacancy created following the departure of an outgoing magistrate.
Since her admission to practice in 2005, Croft has built extensive experience across a broad range of family law matters, including parenting disputes, property settlements, divorce proceedings, adoption, surrogacy, child support, and financial cases.
For more than 13 years, she served as a director of a private law firm, where she not only maintained a substantial caseload but also mentored legal practitioners and contributed to the management and operation of the practice.
Throughout her career, Croft regularly appeared before the courts as both counsel and instructing solicitor in trials and hearings, acted as an independent children’s lawyer in Legal Aid WA matters and represented clients in mediation proceedings.
West Australian Attorney-General Tony Buti expressed how Croft’s extensive experience in family law, strong reputation within the profession, and deep familiarity with the court’s operations positioned her well for a smooth transition to the bench.
“I congratulate Nicole Croft on her appointment as a magistrate of the Family Court of Western Australia,” Buti said.
“She is highly regarded in the family law field and well acquainted with the operations of the court, having appeared in trials there as well as instructed counsel in complex cases.
“Ms Croft’s deep knowledge of the family law system and distinguished service over two decades in private practice augur well for her seamless transition to the magistrate’s bench.”
