Joanne Palamara (pictured) has been appointed as a judge of the NSW District Court.

Described by the Attorney-General’s office as an “experienced lawyer”, Palamara brings more than two decades of specialist experience in personal injury and workers’ compensation law to her new role on the bench.

Before her judicial appointment, she spent nearly 20 years as a partner at Sparke Helmore, where she built a longstanding career with the national firm in its Sydney office.

Admitted as a solicitor in 2001, she began her legal career at the firm and progressed steadily through its ranks, holding roles as a lawyer, senior associate, and special counsel before being appointed partner in 2007.

Over the course of her career, Palamara has developed a strong reputation in personal injury litigation, with particular expertise in workers’ compensation matters and common law claims arising from industrial accidents.

Palamara is scheduled to commence her judicial duties on 17 July 2026.

Attorney-General Michael Daley welcomed the appointment, highlighting Palamara’s extensive experience in personal injury and workers’ compensation law as a valuable asset to the District Court.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Joanne Palamara to the District Court,” A-G Daley said.

“Ms Palamara has an extensive background in personal injury and workers’ compensation matters, which will be an asset to the District Court bench.

“I congratulate Ms Palamara on her appointment.”
