An English barrister on holidays in the Caribbean has been shot during a robbery.

Andrew Thompson and his wife Isobel were walking back to the five-star Sandy Lane golf and spa resort in Barbados when they were attacked by two men.

After threatening the couple with a gun, the robbers demanded Thompson hand over his wallet and his wife’s handbag.

But before he had time to react, he was shot in the lower leg, badly damaging his calf muscle.

The 41-year-old, from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, who has stayed on the island 20 times, said: “They ran in front of my wife and I thought they were asking for money because we have had no problem before.

“I instantly felt I had been hit, but it didn’t hurt as much as it should have.

“I was completely in shock and so angry he had shot me that I just stared at him for two seconds before he ran off with the other man, who yanked my wife’s handbag and ripped it from the strap

Thompson has returned to work only weeks after the incident.
