The managing partner of Walsh Halligan Douglas, Matt McCormick, stepped down today (June 4) after almost a decade with the firm.

McCormick’s departure leaves a partnership of three at the Brisbane firm, with Jack Power, who has been a partner of the firm since 1989, taking on the managing partner post.

Power applauded McCormick’s achievements during his four years as managing partner, during which time he said the firm has strengthened its litigation practice, built a media, entertainment and sports practice, re-branded and developed its social media presence.

“I have seen the firm grow from quite a narrow insurance focus to what it is now – a full service practice in a position to achieve great things,” said Power.

“Due to the initiatives and infrastructure put in place by Matt, the firm is now fully geared to make the most of any opportunities that come its way.

Steven Morris and Maurice Hannan make up the rest of the partnership. Both have been managing partners at previous firms.

McCormick plans to spend time with his family whilst assessing his next steps; however those at WHD have said he is incapable of sitting still for any great length of time.

“I will always have very fond memories of my 10 years at the firm, especially the people I have had the pleasure of working with,” said McCormick.
