Maddocks  has appointed six new partners in the new financial year, four from top-tier rivals.

Appointments were made across Maddocks' three offices in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney and across the firm's three key sectors – government, infrastructure and services.

Stuart Weir, who hails from Allens Linklaters, formerly Allens Arthur Robinson, has joined the banking and finance team.

Simonetta Astolfi joins from Ashurst, formerly Blake Dawson, and will do Commonwealth Government work.

Peter Keel, previously of Clayton Utz, joins commercial disputes.

Norman Lucas also joins commercial disputes, also from Clayton Utz.

Maddocks' CEO David Rennick said the partners from the top tier are looking for a change and the opportunity to “really work with their clients on understanding their issues and how to solve them”.

“Ten years ago we opened our office in Sydney to meet the needs of our clients and this year we opened in Canberra for the same reason. In 2012 we have appointed six new partners across our three offices,” he said.

The new partners are:

Canberra:

Simonetta Astolfi, Commonwealth Government

Melbourne:

David Hartney, Development

Stuart Weir, Banking and Finance

Sydney:

Norman Lucas, Commercial Disputes

Peter Keel, Commercial Disputes

Mathew Stulic, Construction
