Stephen Hughes has joined Piper Alderman as a partner in their national employment relations practice.

Mr Hughes, previously a special counsel at Carter Newell since 2010, has more than 20 years' experience in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors across Australia and internationally.

Mr Hughes focuses on litigation and has advised on industrial relations issues, dispute resolution in the courts and Fair Work Commission, work health and safety legislation, workers’ compensation insurance exposures, discrimination and bullying/harassment, post-employment restraints and confidentiality issues.

Piper Alderman’s employment relations team head David Ey said: “Stephen is one of Brisbane’s leading employment practitioners and is a trusted advisor to many large corporates.”

He added: “With his strong client-focused approach, Stephen will further enhance the excellent service we provide to our Queensland-based clients, as well as national clients. We see a lot of opportunity in Queensland, and his appointment will ensure that we realise this opportunity.”

Piper Alderman has appointed two other partners and one special counsel to their Brisbane firm over the last six months, and Mr Hughes' appointment means the firm now has an employment relations partner in each of their offices across Australia.
