VICTORIAN WOMEN LAWYERS (VWL) has elected a new convenor for 2007 in Justine Lau of Maddocks.

Lau was selected for the role at last November’s annual general meeting for VWL, being promoted from acting convenor, a role she filled from September.

“Her election to the position of convenor for the forthcoming year is a significant personal and professional achievement for [Lau],” Maddocks chairman Mark Hayes said.

A lawyer in Maddocks’ commercial group working mainly in the area of insolvency and restructuring, Lau is the second lawyer from Maddocks to act as VWL convenor, the first being workplace services partner Glenda Beecher in 2004.

Lau hopes to champion a number of new VWL initiatives in 2007, including expanding the reach of VWL to regional Victoria and developing job share and mentoring programs.
