BigLaw firm Bartier Perry has strengthened its dispute resolution and advisory practice with the appointment of an experienced commercial disputes and insolvency lawyer from a mid-tier law firm.
Joining Bartier Perry earlier this month, Chris Kintis brings more than 25 years of experience advising clients on complex commercial disputes, insolvency and restructuring matters, directors’ duties and regulatory issues.
Throughout his career, Kintis has represented a number of high-profile company directors and officers in significant civil and criminal proceedings arising from some of Australia’s largest corporate collapses.
Kintis joins Bartier Perry after spending several years at fellow Sydney law firms, serving in roles such as partner, special counsel, and principal, and was most recently at Cornwalls, where he spent three years as a partner in the dispute resolution and litigation team.
The scope of his expertise encompasses various sectors and legal conflicts, offering specialised proficiency in areas such as insolvency, investigations by regulators, and the obligations of corporate directors.
Bartier Perry CEO Riana Steyn noted that the arrival of Kintis underscores the firm’s strategic focus on bolstering its service offerings through both internal development and the recruitment of high-calibre lateral talent.
“Chris is a highly regarded practitioner whose expertise, commercial approach and commitment to client service make him an excellent addition to our firm,” Steyn said.
“As part of our strategic direction, we continue to invest in areas of growth while maintaining the culture and values that define Bartier Perry.
“Chris strengthens our dispute resolution and advisory practice and further enhances the depth of expertise we offer our clients.
“Our growth strategy has always balanced developing talent from within with selectively attracting experienced lateral partners who align with the firm’s values and long-term vision – Chris is a strong example of that approach in action.”
Kintis indicated that Bartier Perry’s culture, values and breadth of services were key factors behind his decision to join the firm.
“What attracted me to Bartier Perry was the strong alignment in values … the firm has built a reputation for legal excellence while also demonstrating a genuine commitment to its people, its clients and the communities it serves,” Kintis said.
“I was particularly drawn to the firm’s community-minded approach, its commitment to social responsibility and pro bono work, and its willingness to support initiatives that assist those experiencing disadvantage.”
Furthermore, Kintis noted that the scale of the organisation and the diversity of its service offerings were pivotal factors in his decision-making process.
“Bartier Perry is also the right size for my practice and my clients; it is large enough to provide depth across a wide range of legal services, while remaining small enough to deliver highly personalised service and genuinely care about client outcomes,” Kintis said.
“The breadth of expertise across the firm means clients can access the support they need across a range of legal issues without having to look elsewhere.
“That creates better outcomes for clients and presents significant opportunities to further grow my practice.”
The move comes after the firm had recently strengthened its leadership ranks through a 17-strong promotion round, elevating three lawyers to partner alongside promotions across its legal and business services teams.
In his new role, Kintis will collaborate extensively with the dispute resolution and advisory group, providing nuanced strategic counsel on complex commercial litigation, restructuring and insolvency matters, regulatory inquiries, and the various obligations of company directors.
