NRF nabs Ashurst partner
The global law firm has revealed it has recruited an experienced corporate, energy and resources partner from Ashurst.

Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) has announced Gavin Scott will join its Brisbane office, effective 29 January.

Mr Scott brings to his new role over 20 years’ experience of developing natural resources projects in Australia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.
His vast expertise includes being involved in many of Australia’s hard rock and gas projects, including Queensland’s CSG to LNG industry from its inception. In addition, Mr Scott has advised on the development of significant gas pipelines, linear infrastructure, solar and wind farms, as well as agribusiness and residential development projects, according to a statement from NRF.
“We welcome Gavin to the team, who will bring with him substantial experience advising large energy, resources and infrastructure companies on major issues concerning the growth of their businesses,” said NRF managing partner in Australia Wayne Spanner.
“He has a deep understanding of the legal risks that our clients face in developing, running and financing large projects as well as how social impacts can be managed in a sustainable way.”
Commenting on his new role, Mr Scott said: “I am extremely excited and honoured to be commencing at Norton Rose Fulbright”.
“The firm is at the forefront of the current renewables boom in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as having long-standing relationships with traditional resources clients, which fits perfectly with my specialist advisory practice,” he added.
“I am looking forward to working within Norton Rose Fulbright’s global network focusing on natural resources projects.
“I am also passionate about how law firms deal with important issues of reconciliation and inclusion, and am very impressed with the manner in which these issues are embraced by the firm.”
Mr Scott’s appointment comes after other recent partner appointments to NRF’s national corporate and M&A team, including the relocation of Vincent Dwyer from the firm’s Singapore office, as well as the appointments of Martin Irwin, Adam Edelman, Jasmine Sprange, Shamim Razavi and Natalie Lonergan.
In addition, NRF promoted Chris Mitchell and Raymond Lou to the partnership last year.
“Our larger and more diverse firm has started 2018 strongly, and a big part of that progress has been the continual broadening and renewal of our national corporate and M&A team, as well as expanding our industry expertise in energy and resources,” Mr Spanner said.
