Clayton Utz elevates 68 to senior roles

Top-tier national firm Clayton Utz has promoted 24 lawyers to special counsel and 44 to senior associate across five of its Australian offices.

Clayton Utz has promoted 68 of its lawyers to special counsel and senior associate roles, spanning its commercial litigation, competition, corporate, M&A, capital markets, environment and planning, insurance, intellectual property and technology, major projects and construction, public sector, real estate, restructuring and insolvency, tax and workplace relations, employment and safety practice groups.

The promotions will see the lawyers take up their new roles across the firm’s Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth offices.

Speaking about the promotions, Clayton Utz deputy chief executive partner Kate Jordan said: "Our new senior associates and special counsels are all talented and committed lawyers who have made significant contributions to the firm and our clients, and are very deserving of their promotions."

In the commercial litigation group, Peter Sise, Tim Donisi, Sheena McKie, Edmond Park, Emily Tranter and Katie Wood were all made special counsel, and Will Golinelli, Gemma O’Connor, JK Muckersie, Emily Wilde, Tessa Trend, Ananya Roy, Lauren Stewart and Heloise Woodside were made senior associates.

The new competition senior associates are Matthew Evans and Alexander Vial.

The promoted lawyers in corporate, M&A and capital markets are Quentin Reidy, Stephen Neale, Hugh Brolsma, Sidney Tang and Samy Mansour (special counsel) and Ben Cosentino, Lara Solomons, Jared Webster and Johan Pietersz (senior associate).

In environment and planning, Kate McLean, Hadleigh Pedler, Wagih Doueihi and Alison Packham were promoted to senior associate.

Emma Mawson and James Neil were both elevated to special counsel in the insurance and intellectual property and technology teams respectively.

Lawyers in major projects and construction who were appointed to more senior roles are Rachael Schulz, Kate McKenna, Natalie Sperenza and Kristina Skamvougeras (special counsel), and Emily Hartnell, Kate Reading, Kate Grutzner, Mathea McCubbing, Charlotte Gordon, Edwina Higgins and Shefali Vaishnav (senior associate).

In the public sector group, Tim Gordon was made special counsel, and Lisa Brereton, Emily Costello, Ingrid Bremers, Zeng He, Krysten Stevens, Nick Topfer and Rebecca Wood were made senior associates.

The promoted lawyers in the real estate group are Paula Noble, Jerome Martin, Crystal Eggleton and Eugene Tan (special counsel), George Kontoleon, Leighton Smith and Max Bryant (senior associate).

Anna Trevor, Talia Lirosi and Mikhail Glavac were all elevated to senior associate in restructuring and insolvency.

In the tax group, Alexandra Fraser was made senior associate.

And in workplace relations, employment and safety, the promoted lawyers are Hilary Searing and Matt Kelleher (special counsel) and Matthew Cameron, Brett Thompson, Claire Tuffield, Annabelle Lesage and Emma Vautin (senior associate).

The news follows Norton Rose Fulbright promoting 42 to senior roles, King & Wood Mallesons elevating 76, and Herbert Smith Freehills appointing 48 new senior associates. 

ADDENDUM: Following the publication of this story, two more senior associates were appointed by the firm. Doug Thompson and Aaron Johnson were both promoted in the competition group in the firm's Sydney office.
