KPMG Law has hired partners Zein El Hassan and Damien Bailey, as well as directors Alex Lundie and Philip Jones-Hope. Both Mr El Hassan and Mr Bailey have commenced their new roles at KPMG Law, joining from Norton Rose Fulbright and Herbert Smith Freehills, respectively. Meanwhile, Mr Lundie and Mr Jones-Hope are expected to start at the firm within the next few months, after departing Clayton Utz and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, respectively.

While at NRF, Mr El Hassan led the financial services risk advisory team. Throughout this role he gained extensive experience advising in the financial services sector, with a focus on business transformation, risk and remediation, fintech and artificial intelligence and superannuation.

Formerly of HSF, Mr Bailey joins KPMG Law with vast expertise in advising on all aspects of infrastructure rollouts, major technology transformation projects, joint ventures, systems integration, outsourcing and cloud arrangements, strategic projects and new technologies. Mr Bailey also brings a wealth of connections and experience in the Asia and Middle Eastern markets, a statement from KPMG said.

Mr Lundie will join KPMG Law with a background on technology transactions, including outsourcing projects, technology procurement, digital projects and “as a service” arrangements. In addition, the firm noted, he brings a combination of supplier experience having spent four years with Infosys in London and strong government experience having recently worked across Commonwealth and State based technology projects.

Meanwhile, Mr Jones-Hope’s new role at KPMG Law sees the firm expand its offering with the launch of its government-focused legal practice in its Canberra office. Mr Jones-Hope is former senior solicitor and principal adviser in the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, according to the firm’s statement. He offers extensive private and public sector experience to KPMG Law’s clients, with more than 25 years of private sector legal and commercial experience, including experience in government projects, commercial advisory, and legislative and regulatory reform, it said.

“Zein, Damien, Alex and Philip are all talented individuals with deep industry expertise and top tier experience. They bolster KPMG’s integrated offering and enable us to provide the widest possible lens of insight and expertise to our clients,” said Stuart Fuller, head of KPMG Law.

“These appointments reflect our clear strategic focus on growth in the key, rapidly changing and inter-connected areas of financial services regulation and reform, data, digital and technology and government. Their combined experience positions KPMG as the go-to adviser for both depth of expertise as well as an innovative and end-to-end advisory approach in these critical areas of business for our clients.”
