The new centre will be based on Ann St, Brisbane, featuring smart technology and environmentally sustainable design features.

According to a statement from the firm, the move comes as it looks to bolster its innovative delivery philosophy, which required a flexible and collaborative workspace.

“It is an exciting time to be opening our global delivery centre at 180 Ann St. This new space enables us to expand the delivery of our innovative business and legal services to even more of our clients. This demonstrates our commitment to and investment in innovative and new approaches,” Ashurst global managing partner Paul Jenkins said.

The global delivery centre builds on the successful establishment of a delivery centre in Glasgow, which has resulted in over 300 new roles since its inception in 2013. Brisbane and Glasgow will work together as one truly global operation, providing coverage across the whole of Ashurst’s international platform.

“Utilising these hubs enables our lawyers to deliver their work in an agile and efficient way, and is central to ensure Ashurst continues to evolve with our changing sector and the changing needs of our clients. The Ann St office will help us to continue to transform the way we work, and deliver commercial solutions in a globally consistent way.

Ashurst’s Australian Head of HR, Richard Knox, will lead the new centre as head of office. He described it as a modern and dynamic workspace, inspiring an open plan layout to maximise the space as well as capitalise on the opportunity to collaborate across teams”.

“It provides the space and agility we need for our innovative and essential business and legal services teams to continue to deliver exceptional results for the firm, and we thank the Queensland government for their support in this project, Mr Knox said.

“Our new office will provide a great location to develop our Ashurst Advance offering to keep pace with client demands for innovative and more cost-effective delivery of legal services. Ashurst Advance has had legal technologists and AI capabilities based in Brisbane, and late last year we established a team of legal analysts to focus on document-intensive projects and support a broad range of practice areas.

“We have already expanded that team and expect further growth, as well as the addition of new Ashurst Advance roles at the global delivery centre.”

Speaking about the new office, minister for state development, Cameron Dick said:  “With a strong and diverse economy, competitive business costs, enviable lifestyle, world-class universities and close proximity to the Asia-Pacific, Queensland is a leading location for businesses to set up base”.

“Ashurst’s decision to choose Brisbane over a multitude of competing locations across Australia and Asia sends a clear message that high-calibre companies are sitting up and taking notice of Queensland’s huge potential as a location to establish a global headquarters or shared services centre,” he added.

“The company’s move will create 150 high-value new jobs over five years and service the company’s international network of offices. Queensland’s liveability, access to world-class universities, highly skilled workforce, proximity to Asia all played a key role in the company’s decision to select Queensland.
