Scott Butler is a senior commercial litigation lawyer who specialises in insolvency and restructuring. In addition to advising clients on commercial disputes, he advises on all aspects of administration, liquidation, receivership and bankruptcy.

Head of commercial dispute resolution at Hall & Wilcox, Graydon Dowd, said the firm was delighted to welcome Mr Butler.

“Scott is a very impressive commercial litigator, with a strong profile in Brisbane and nationally. He advises many clients in the financial services, energy and resources and government sectors, which aligns with our team’s focus,” he said.

Wayne Kelcey, who heads up Hall & Wilcox’s insolvency practice, echoed Mr Dowds’ comments.

Scott is one of the leading insolvency lawyers in Brisbane. Scott will work across both the commercial litigation and insolvency areas and will be of great value to the firm, especially in a [post-COVID-19] market,” he said.

With more than 20 years’ experience, Mr Butler had developed a strong industry knowledge with strong technical and dispute resolution skills to provide innovative, commercial and cost-effective solutions.

Mr Butler is the chair of the insolvency and restructuring committee of the Law Council of Australia and is chair of the Queensland Law Society insolvency law committee. He is also a fellow of INSOL International.

Hall & Wilcox managing partner, Tony Macvean, commented that Mr Butler’s appointment will provide further depth to the firm’s commercial dispute resolution and insolvency practices nationally, which aligns with the firm’s strategy.

This appointment also further expands our commercial offering to clients in Brisbane. We see a lot of opportunity in Brisbane and are keen to invest further in that market to support our Queensland-based and national clients, he said.

Mr Butler said he is excited to be joining Hall & Wilcox and to “help expand the firm’s expertise and capabilities in Queensland.”

“Hall & Wilcox is a wonderful firm which I have long admired and I am looking forward to the years ahead,” he added.
