Anne-Marie Allgrove has been appointed as the new global chair of Baker McKenzie’s IP, data and technology practice group, taking over from Ben Allgrove, who has led the group since 2018.

Ms Allgrove, who is based in Sydney, formerly chaired the firm’s technology, media and telecommunications industry group and “has a broad commercial practice with particular focus on issues in the technology, payments, and healthcare industries”, Bakers said in a statement.

Speaking about the appointment, Bakers global chair Milton Cheng said: “I am delighted to welcome Anne-Marie to her new role.”

“We have had plenty to be proud of this year despite the challenges we are all facing and I look forward to seeing how the new leadership will continue to drive our progress. I would also like to sincerely thank Ben for all his passion and vision leading the group for the last two years,” he said.

Ms Allgrove added: For the large majority of clients we speak to, digital transformation, the collection, use and protection of data and protection of their IP are [among] their top priorities.”

“Our [IP, data and technology practice group] is at the leading edge of these conversations, helping companies around the world [transform] their businesses, protect their data, IP and trade secrets while also staying within the fast-evolving regulatory frameworks that accompany so many of these areas. It is an exciting practice to lead.”

Mr Allgrove will continue as the firm’s innovation committee chair.
