Legal institute CEO makes the move into superannuation sector
The Law Institute of Victoria’s chief executive will expand his expertise into a superannuation fund for lawyers, replacing an outgoing BigLaw board member.

He replaces Ashurst partner Geoff Hone who retired in March 2021 after 11 years as a legalsuper director.

Independent chair Kirsten Mander said Mr Awty’s appointment into legalsuper has highlighted the “important link” that directors of the fund have with the legal sector, as well as expanding the financial and commercial expertise on the board at a time “when scrutiny and change across the entire financial services system” are increasing.
“Adam’s role as chief executive of LIV centres on meeting members’ expectations through the highest standards of professionalism and service delivery – a direct alignment with legalsuper’s own role in managing the retirement savings of Australia’s legal community,” Ms Mander commented.
She added that Mr Awty will also bring strong governance credentials to the funder through current and previous positions on statutory authority boards and audit and risk committees: “We regard this as a vital attribute, in keeping with legalsuper’s recognised excellence in corporate governance.”
CEO of legalsuper, Andrew Proebstl, added: “At a time when superannuation has become the subject of daily media commentary covering material issues such as reform, performance, mergers and regulation, we look forward to Adam contributing valuable experiences and insights.”
