New senior judge administrator takes to Qld Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Queensland has welcomed a new senior judge administrator.
The Honourable Justice Helen Bowskill has been appointed the court’s new senior judge administrator. Justice Bowskill will replace Justice Ann Lyons who is retiring on 24 August 2021.
In 2017 Justice Bowskill was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland’s trial division, which followed more than two-and-a-half years as a judge of the District Court. During this time she also heard matters in the Children’s Court of Queensland and the Planning and Environment Court of Queensland.
In making the announcement, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Shannon Fentiman credited Justice Bowskill’s impressive background in the nation’s legal profession.
“Justice Bowskill brings extensive skills and breadth of experience to her new role as Senior Judge Administrator, who is responsible for the administration of the Supreme Court’s Trial Division,” Ms Fentiman said.
“...Her Honour was admitted as a barrister to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1998 and was later appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2013.
“As a barrister, Her Honour practised widely in public, administrative and commercial law, with a particular focus on native title law.
“Justice Lyons was appointed to the role nearly four years ago on 24 August 2017 and I again want to pay tribute to her for her service, professionalism and management of the Trial Division.”
