Simmtech Holdings advised on game-changing factory in Malaysia

K&L Gates partners from across its Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore offices worked together to advise Simmtech Holdings on the launch of its first large-scale printed circuit board factory in south-east Asia.

Deal: K&L Gates has advised Simmtech Holdings on setting up a large-scale factory in Penang, Malaysia.

Value: USD$120 million-plus

Area: Manufacturing

Key players: K&L Gates finance partner Richard Hayes, projects partner Zac Kerr, corporate and projects partner Marius Toime, and client relationship partner Henry Kim.

Deal significance: K&L Gates’ advice spanned structuring, land acquisition, construction, and finance for the project. The new factory should provide jobs for 1,000-plus people and will help solve a worldwide shortage of global chips.

Simmtech’s managing director for south-east Asia Jeffery Chun stated: “We were impressed by the firm’s ability to draw upon its global capabilities in various disciplines to successfully structure, negotiate and document each element of the project to achieve an outstanding outcome for all stakeholders.”
