Hall & Wilcox partner and leader, health and community, and 2021 Partner of the Year award winner Alison Choy Flannigan has been working with the health sector during a challenging period amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

She and her firm have delivered legal services for the government’s COVID-19 hotline as well as for those in the health sector who provide COVID-19-related medical devices, including ventilators, masks, vaccines, and rapid antigen tests.

As part of her service offering during the pandemic, she reads contracts for hospitals acting for health service providers, and aged care units in relation to COVID-19.

“We’ve had the privilege of doing work that has a direct benefit to the community and health sector,” Ms Choy Flannigan told Lawyers Weekly.

“I think the quality of the matters that we’ve worked on and the positive feedback from our clients would have helped me win the award.”

Ms Choy Flannigan, who has won the award multiple times, said the recognition boosted both hers and her firm’s profile and was a useful tool for branding and marketing.

She encouraged other legal professionals who are nominating or submitting for the awards to compile a submission that is consistent with the Partner of the Year categories and highlights their contribution to their firm.

“There’s a number of evaluation criteria so it’s up to you to highlight how you’ve contributed in various ways, including leadership, outstanding work that demonstrates excellence, challenges encountered in completing the work, and your contribution to the growth of the financial performance of your firm,” Ms Choy Flannigan explained.

“I think what really stood out in my submission was the quality of the work and my clients that I’ve worked for in the relevant year. We’re one of the leading health and community practices in the country and we’ve done some leading edge and outstanding work during COVID-19.”

Ms Choy Flannigan underscored the importance of including high-quality references in submissions, adding that she included references from her managing partner as well as her clients.

“We all work very hard and we don’t expect accolades but it is generally very much appreciated when we do receive that award,” she said.

Now is the time to get your submissions in for the 2022 Partner of the Year Awards so you can be recognised for the valuable services you provide to your clients.
