The Australian Law Awards – which is brought to you together with our principal partner UNSW Law and Justice – will be held as a black-tie gala event on Friday, 12 August 2022, at the Australian Turf Club, Royal Randwick Racecourse, Sydney.

Back for its 22nd year, the Australian Law Awards not only celebrates the tireless efforts of law professionals who drive the legal industry forward, it also showcases the depth of talent in law firms and organisations across the industry in Australia and recognises the achievements, contributions, and capabilities of individuals, firms, and organisations.

The awards – which include 40 individual and group categories – are peer-reviewed and judged by a well-respected and trusted panel.

It is an opportunity for law firms, managing partners, general counsel, barristers, and legal scholars to distinguish themselves and strengthen their position while retaining and attracting the best talent and business.

This year, Lawyers Weekly is honoured to introduce the Mediator/Arbitrator of the Year category to recognise their outstanding performance either in a law firm or in a sole practice (including at the bar).

Mediators and arbitrators play a vital role in prioritising dispute resolution pathways over litigation, particularly in an increasingly litigious environment post-pandemic, thereby keeping costs down for clients.

As such, Lawyers Weekly is calling on all lawyers who work as mediators/arbitrators to submit an entry or nominate a worthy colleague in the Mediator/Arbitrator of the Year award category this year.

An effective submission will detail the outstanding work mediators/arbitrators have completed over the 2021-22 financial year (FY21-22).

It is particularly important to outline how you handled challenges that emerged in mediating disputes and how you demonstrated creativity and lateral thinking to ensure favourable outcomes for clients.

Judges will look favourably on award candidates who can demonstrate what sets them apart from their peers as mediators/arbitrators.

To be eligible for the award, the lawyer must demonstrate work completed in Australia for their firm or organisation in the 12 months over FY21-22.

To enter the award, register your account through our awards platform, fill in the details of your submissions, press save, and lodge it.

The judging criteria for the award category is both qualitative and quantitative and acknowledges growth, business development, business excellence, leadership, and innovation.

Submit your entry or nominate a colleague whom you believe is worthy of recognition of the Mediator/Arbitrator of the Year award by Friday, 3 June 2022.
