Sydney-based Phillip Salem has been appointed as Sparke Helmore’s state and territory government leader – a role created to develop coordinated state and territory government practices in all the firm’s jurisdictions with a particular focus on NSW, Victoria, Queensland and the Northern Territory.
Prior to taking on the new role, Mr Salem was national manager partner of Sparke from 2016 – a role he “recently stepped away from in order to go back to his government roots”, a statement from the firm explained.
Before this, he was a partner within Sparke’s government practice area.
Sparke Helmore chair Roland Hassall said Mr Salem’s extensive experience in acting for Commonwealth and local government clients would be hugely beneficial.
“Phillip led the firm as national managing partner for six years and did so with a great deal of energy, courage and commitment – particularly through the last two challenging years,” Mr Hassall said.
“The firm evolved and prospered under his wise leadership and I’m very pleased that Phillip will be taking on this pivotal role in one of the key pillars of the firm’s growth strategy. It made perfect sense for us to make best use of Phillip’s outstanding credentials and strong and very senior connections across Australian government.”
