The sixth edition of the International Negotiation Competition (INC) was held at the National Law University Delhi earlier this month — and featured competitors from 11 countries.

According to the firm, the competition provides an opportunity for law students to practice and improve their negotiation skills through carefully structured simulations — particularly for students who aspire to be international lawyers. This year, students from 38 internationally renowned universities from 11 countries took part, including those from the UK, Australia, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Poland and Singapore.

In a closely contested final round between Macquarie University and the University of Oxford, the University of Oxford emerged the overall winner. The expert panel of judges for the final round consisted of chairman of HSF India Chris Parsons, executive director and Maruti Suzuki India general counsel, Manjaree Chowdhary; OYO general counsel, Rakesh Prusti; and KPMG India general counsel, Meera Singh.

Similar to previous years, a number of general counsels and senior lawyers from top Indian law firms were invited to be judges for the various rounds of the competition.

Judges and participants were impressed by the outstanding quality of the legal problems used during the competition. A large team of HSF associates and trainees, led by Siddhartha Shukla and Savy Jajmann, were involved in drafting the problems and overall organisation of the competition.

Commenting on the competition, Mr Parsons said: “We are proud of the INC and that it continues to reach greater heights with every successive edition.”
