Clayton Utz alumnus Hugh Brolsma has returned as a partner in the firm’s national corporate practice, in a move the firm said will bolster its expertise in merger and acquisition and private capital.

Mr Brolsma was previously a special counsel at Clayton Utz before moving to Ashurst in 2021. He has extensive M&A capabilities with a particular focus on private capital transactions, as well as senior in-house experience at a leading global investment firm.

Mr Brolsma’s experience covers a range of sectors, including infrastructure, financial services, telecommunications, media and sports. Over his career, he has advised on cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, reorganisations, initial public offerings, and general corporate law and commercial matters, both in Australia and London.

“Clayton Utz has been pivotal to my career, and returning to the firm as part of the partnership feels like coming home,” he said.

“It’s an exciting time in the world of private capital across many sectors, and I’m looking forward to working with the firm’s great team and clients.”

Clayton Utz corporate, M&A and capital markets national practice group leader Stephanie Daveson said the new appointment would help the firm continue to build out its private capital capabilities.

“With over $100 billion in private capital assets currently under management in Australia, there’s a lot of opportunity in the space. Hugh’s addition to the team helps to build on our expertise in private capital transactions and the support we provide our valued clients in this area,” she said.

“We’re excited by the opportunities here, and it’s a pleasure to have Hugh return to Clayton Utz.”
