International law firm King & Wood Mallesons has bolstered its private capital capability with the addition of a new partner, who joins from Clayton Utz.
King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has appointed a new private equity specialist to its regional private capital team.
Partner Niro Ananda brings more than two decades of experience guiding prominent and active financial sponsors and their portfolio companies through complex transactions, including private and public M&A, securities offerings, and capital restructures across a wide variety of sectors. He was most recently a partner at BigLaw rival Clayton Utz, where he has been a partner since 2009.
Speaking about the appointment, KWM chief executive partner Renae Lattey said Ananda’s addition was a reflection of the firm’s continued expansion of its private capital practice.
“We are delighted to welcome Niro to the KWM partnership,” she said.
“His appointment represents a major opportunity for both KWM’s already strong private capital practice and its clients, given the increasing importance of private capital deal volume in the broader Australian private capital market.”
Ananda joins KWM effective 1 May, based in the firm’s Sydney office. This news comes after the firm’s addition of a former Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) general counsel earlier this month, as well as the hiring of three lateral partners in February and the appointment of 19, including six partners, to its employment relations and safety practice in December last year.
KWM co-head of private capital Mark McNamara added that the private capital team would continue to grow to keep up with growing client and market needs.
“Private capital’s prominence in Australian markets continues to grow. Niro’s appointment reflects our continued commitment to our clients to ensure they have a depth and breadth of team in Australia and Asia to match that growth,” he said.
“Coupled with the integration of our leading real estate private equity specialists (Mark Bayliss and Quintin du Plessis), our private capital team will continue to grow, allowing us to meet current and expected future market demand in the private capital space.”
