Gilchrist Connell has added three senior lawyers to its Sydney office to improve the firm’s ability to cater to clients with diverse health needs across the NSW jurisdiction.

Karine Marianne joins as principal after a 12-year tenure at national law firm Moray & Agnew, where she progressed through the roles of solicitor, senior associate, and special counsel.

Marianne has “exclusively” dedicated her career to the health law sector, collaborating closely with Medical Defence Organisations (MDOs) to provide support to a diverse range of healthcare professionals, including physicians, dentists, radiologists, and private healthcare institutions.

Lauren Antonini has been appointed as a senior associate at the firm, bringing over 16 years of expertise in health law. Prior to this, she held the position of senior associate at the indemnity insurer Avant Mutual.

She has a proven track record in representing health professionals across various legal matters, including civil litigation, complex and high-profile prosecutions by AHPRA and HCC, coronial inquests, Medicare issues, and actions initiated by the NSW Medical Council.

Natalie Donnan has also joined the firm as a senior associate, having previously been principal solicitor at the NSW Crown Solicitor’s Office.

She brings, the firm said, “extensive experience in defending Local Health Districts and healthcare professionals in both litigated and pre-litigated claims, as well as in coronial inquests and sensitive matters”.

Speaking on these senior appointments, Richard Wood, managing principal at Gilchrist Connell, emphasised that bringing these senior lawyers on board will support the firm’s continued growth.

“The addition of three senior health lawyers to our NSW health practice continues the expansion of our national Health Law practice group and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to our health clients,” Wood said.

“Our ability to attract such high-quality talent to the firm is indicative of the quality of services we can provide to our health clients and expands our offering in this sector.”

This news follows the firm’s appointment of two special counsel and four senior associates in mid-March, the hiring of a health law principal in the same month, the appointment of a new chief executive in late November, and the addition of four new special counsel, three new senior associates, and six associates in September.
