McInnes Wilson has made a significant move towards modernising its operations by adopting a cloud-first technology strategy, replacing its legacy systems with a suite of interoperable platforms.

The transition comes as the firm marks its 50th anniversary and seeks to position itself for continued growth and agility in a rapidly evolving legal landscape.

The national law firm, which employs over 400 staff across six offices nationwide, has implemented a new technology ecosystem that includes Actionstep for matter and client management, Elite 3E for financial operations, and NetDocuments for document management.

In a statement, the firm said the implementation of the three platforms creates a tightly integrated system designed to “support its next phase of growth”, having recognised the need for a “more modern, scalable approach to practice management”.

Robyna May, chief information officer at McInnes Wilson, explained that the move to a more flexible and future-ready tech stack was driven by the firm’s need for internal systems that can grow and adapt in step with the business.

“As we evolve, we need to ensure our core financial and operational systems don’t hold us back, but rather they support ongoing growth and improvement,” May said.

“We knew we needed a true Cloud-based SaaS ecosystem that was flexible, well-connected, and able to scale with the firm, backed by clear roadmaps to give us confidence the product would continue to evolve with us. The combination of Actionstep, Elite 3E, and NetDocuments stood out as platforms that support that kind of growth.”

“These platforms are setting the benchmark for what true cloud-native practice management tech ecosystems for national law firms should look like. Their long-term vision and continued investment give us confidence that they will keep pace with the changing needs of firms like ours. We see it as a key part of what will drive the next stage of our firm.”

McInnes Wilson’s decision to adopt Actionstep as part of its firm-wide digital transformation was based in part on the platform’s “powerful workflow automation” and ease of integration with other legal tech tools.

David Hepburn, president of Actionstep, expressed pride in the platform being chosen by McInnes Wilson, noting the strong alignment between the two organisations’ visions.

“At Actionstep, we’re proud to be the case management platform of choice for McInnes Wilson,” Hepburn said.

“Their vision for a modern, scalable approach aligns perfectly with our mission to empower law firms with modern, flexible technology that gives them an advantage as the industry continues to evolve. We’re excited to be a long-term partner in their journey.”
