National law firm Mills Oakley has strengthened its South Australian insurance practice with the appointment of a senior lawyer from global competitor Barry Nilsson.
Mills Oakley has appointed insurance litigation specialist Bronwyn Ackland (pictured) as a partner in its Adelaide office, aiming to strengthen its national insurance practice and accelerate its growth in South Australia.
Before joining the national law firm, Ackland spent nearly a decade at global rival Barry Nilsson, where she held the position of principal.
Ackland brings nearly 25 years of experience in insurance and health litigation, with expertise spanning public liability, personal injury, compulsory third party (CTP) claims, professional indemnity, medical negligence, and property damage disputes.
In a statement, Mills Oakley noted that her work has involved defending medical practitioners and hospitals in regulatory investigations and civil claims.
She also has experience representing clients in matters before the magistrates, district, supreme, and federal courts, the Industrial Relations Tribunal, the South Australian Employment Tribunal, and the Coroners Court.
John Nerurker, chief executive of Mills Oakley, described Ackland as a highly respected figure in the insurance sector whose appointment reflects the firm’s dedication to strengthening its legal team in South Australia.
“Bronwyn is one of the most respected insurance lawyers in the country. Her track record in healthcare, professional liability and complex injury claims makes her an ideal addition to our team and a tremendous asset to our clients,” Nerurker said.
“This appointment underscores our commitment to building the strongest possible team in South Australia and delivering market-leading expertise to our clients.”
This news follows the firm’s promotion of three partners last month, its promotion round of 79, including four to partnership, in late June, the appointment of five new partners to its Sydney office in late April, hiring two partners from rival firms in the same month, having previously poached a former MinterEllison partner and his Adelaide-based insurance team in February.
