Dr Andrew Murray has been appointed as the new managing partner for BigLaw firm Colin Biggers & Paisley, taking over from incumbent Nick Crennan, who has served in the role since 2017.

In August 2024, Murray was appointed as the firm’s deputy managing partner, and in that time, the firm said he had worked closely with Crennan in a considered and strategic succession plan, ensuring continuity of leadership and alignment with the firm’s long-term vision.

Murray joined the firm 15 years ago in its construction and engineering team, becoming a partner in 2016. He will step into the role on 1 October, with Crennan to conclude his term on 30 September.

Crennan, the firm added, played a “pivotal role” in shaping Colin Biggers & Paisley’s national presence, including having successfully navigated complex economic cycles, a global pandemic and a rapidly evolving legal landscape, ensuring the firm can enter its 125th year “with resilience and clarity of purpose”.

The appointment of a new firm head coincides with that milestone anniversary, and reflects, the firm said, a continued commitment to clarity, collaboration and client impact, “principles that Dr Murray has long championed”.

The news follows the firm’s promotion of eight lawyers in July, its appointment of a senior associate from HSF Kramer as a new partner in February, and its hiring of another partner to lead its property insurance team in the same month.

Speaking about the transition, Crennan said: “It has been a privilege to lead Colin Biggers & Paisley through a period of significant growth and transformation. I’m proud of the strong, values-led culture we’ve cultivated and the enduring relationships we’ve built with our clients, colleagues and communities.”

“Andrew’s appointment signals a new chapter for Colin Biggers & Paisley, one that builds on our legacy while embracing the opportunities ahead. His deep understanding of our clients’ needs, our people and the broader community makes him exceptionally well-placed to lead the next phase of our journey,” he said.

Murray added: “I am honoured to lead Colin Biggers & Paisley into its next chapter. Today, we are more than just lawyers – we are strategic partners, problem-solvers and drivers of progress, committed to building a stronger future for our clients, colleagues and communities.”

“On behalf of the practice I extend our gratitude to Nick for his legacy of growth, strength and cohesion, which have laid a remarkable foundation for our continued success. This year marks our practice’s 125th anniversary,” he said.

“It is a reminder that by staying true to our values, by building on our deep industry and sector expertise, and by prioritising innovation and client experience, we will not only uphold our legacy but continue to empower our people and support the aspirations of our clients in the years to come.”
