Collaborative AI platform Legora has set up a new presence in Sydney and made three senior leadership appointments as it moves to expand its Australian and APAC operations.
Legora, which recently completed a Series C round of US$150 million at a US$1.8 billion valuation, is “significantly expanding” its Australian and Asia-Pacific operations with a new Sydney office and senior leadership appointments.
The platform has made three strategic senior legal engineer appointments: Graeme Grovum, who was formerly the head of legal technology and client services at Allens; Kosta Hountalas, a former senior associate at Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer in its technology, media, and telecommunications practice; and Murray Edstein, who was an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company and was a senior associate at HSF Kramer.
Edstein recently appeared on an episode of LawTech Talks, discussing “The AI lawyer of the future”.
The appointments follow the adoption of Legora by some of the biggest law firms in Australia, including MinterEllison and Allens.
Legora chief executive and co-founder Max Junestrand said: “In less than six months, Legora has gone from a standing start in Australia to being adopted by some of the region’s biggest law firms.
“I expect our Australian team will need to double in size every three months to meet current demand in Australia and across the APAC region.”
Heather Paterson, who was recently hired to lead Legora’s APAC and Japan operations from Sydney, said: “The legal sector’s transformation is happening right now, and Australia is at the forefront of this disruption.
“I’m looking forward to driving AI adoption across the region and working directly with Australian firms as they reshape how legal work gets done. Our platform is evolving fast, enabling lawyers to move beyond administrative tasks and focus on the strategic, high-value work that defines great legal advice.”
Paterson added: “We’re hiring the brightest lawyers in Australia and will continue to look across firms to see who we can bring on to support our expansion.
“These roles are for legal engineers who can blend traditional legal expertise with AI engineering capability. It’s one of the most exciting jobs in the country, backed by standout partners and incredible market demand.”
