Global law firm Allens has appointed a new managing partner, taking over from Richard Spurio, who has led the firm for over a decade.
Marc Kemp will be the new managing partner of Allens and will assume his duties on 1 July 2026.
His tenure will follow that of Richard Spurio, who has led the BigLaw firm for more than 10 years, overseeing what the firm called “a period of sustained success”.
Kemp has served at Allens for nearly two decades and joined the partnership in 2012. He is a member of the firm’s executive leadership team and heads Allens’ funds, superannuation, and financial services practice group.
The news follows the firm’s promotion of 86 lawyers to more senior roles back in July.
It also follows the naming of new managing partners last week by fellow BigLaw firms, Kennedys and Hamilton Locke.
Speaking about the appointment, Allens chair Chelsey Drake said Kemp has deep knowledge of the firm’s business, a strong client focus, and a “clear vision for the future”.
“This is an exciting moment for us. Building on a strong foundation, Marc is exceptionally well placed to guide the firm in a rapidly evolving legal and business environment,” Drake said, adding that Spurio has “made an outstanding contribution, guiding the firm through significant growth and change. His leadership, steady judgement and commitment to our people and clients have shaped the strong position the firm holds today, and we are deeply grateful for his energy, work, and drive over that time”.
Kemp said: “Allens has an extraordinary history and an exciting future. I look forward to working with our people and our clients as we share in that future, and continue to grow, innovate, and lead in a changing market.
“I feel confident and optimistic about what we can do together.”
Spurio said: “It has been an enormous privilege to have led this great firm, and I am looking forward to working with Marc through the transition. His commitment, focus and ambition for the firm will be key drivers for our ongoing success.”
