MinterEllison has brought over a technology and data expert from the Domain Group to fill its newly created role of chief AI officer.
Pooyan Asgari will lead MinterEllison’s AI strategy and drive its responsible, effective integration across the firm.
Previously chief data officer at the Domain Group, Asgari was instrumental in turning it into one of Australia’s most AI-mature organisations, having architected an enterprise-wide strategy and a proprietary predictive AI engine.
MinterEllison CEO and managing partner Virginia Briggs said this appointment was “a very exciting opportunity for the firm”.
“Pooyan has both deep experience in advising on enterprise AI and then building and commercialising it at scale across large organisations,” Briggs said.
“That rare skillset will further accelerate our leading-edge AI strategy and deeply embed AI into how we deliver value to our clients.
“Pooyan’s decision to join us reflects the great strength of MinterEllison’s strategic AI direction.”
Asgari said he was thrilled to join MinterEllison.
“The legal profession is one of the most fascinating places to be working on AI right now; the stakes are high, the problems are genuinely hard, and the opportunity to create real value is enormous,” Asgari said.
“I look forward to working with MinterEllison to build something exceptional.”
Asgari will work closely with managing partner, AI, Simon Ball, and chief digital officer, Gary Adler.
Last October, MinterEllison added Legora to its suite of AI tools and has developed proprietary tools such as the AI-driven legal data engine, Cortex. This works alongside other firm-built solutions, including Stockatoo, CASEowary, and HelpME.
The firm also recently launched its AI Accelerator program to embed AI-enabled workflows across its team.
