Steven Stevens, incoming president of the Law Institute of Victoria, outlines his goals for 2010.

Stevens says he will address concerns and initiatives regarding access to justice. He notes that Victoria has the lowest per capital spending on legal aid, and that it's heavily impacting on children who are ending up unrepresented in family court proceeding. The LIV, he says, will continue to lobby both State and Federal Governments for an increased budget for legal aid.

He says that he will address succession planning issues for older lawyers, particularly sole practitioner firms.
