November 15, 2002: The arrival of UK firm Allen & Overy on Australian shores this year (2010) shocked many within the legal profession but in 2002 such an event was considered very unlikely.

On the discussion board of http://www.rollonfriday.com/ the Australian legal market was targeted as British lawyers discussed why so few UK firms maintained offices in Australia. One lawyer wrote: "There are few international firms with a presence in Australia - the rates are too low so it's not worth their time and effort."
