As the Australian legal industry enters a new era of technological transformation, a recent report has revealed the platforms driving progress and shaping how the profession navigates this period of rapid change.

The inaugural 2025 Legal Tech Review, released by market research firm Agile Market Intelligence, surveyed more than 1,200 lawyers across private practice and in-house counsel, revealing how they rank the legal technology transforming their daily work.

Agile Market Intelligence director Michael Johnson highlighted that while competitive features remain important, customer experience continues to be the top priority when choosing a tech provider.

“Competitive features still matter, but we’re seeing lawyers place greater value on reliability, clarity and ongoing support,” Johnson said.

“The market leaders are those that deliver a well-rounded proposition with powerful products backed by exceptional user experience.”

According to the report, more than half (58 per cent) of Australian law firms plan to boost their investment in legal technology over the next 12 months – a surge that Agile attributes to the growing adoption of AI and the push to streamline administrative processes.

However, the real story isn’t how much firms are spending, but how they are planning and where they choose to invest their resources.

The data also revealed that nearly six out of 10 law firms (58 per cent) select their legal tech solutions based on peer recommendations, highlighting the significant influence of word of mouth in shaping purchasing decisions.

To track which technology providers earn the strongest peer recommendations, Agile has utilised the Net Promoter Score (NPS) – a key metric that measures customer loyalty by asking users how likely they are to recommend a platform to a colleague.

A positive NPS indicates that promoters outnumber detractors, reflecting high levels of user satisfaction and advocacy.

Agile found that user experience emerged as the strongest driver of loyalty across every category tested, outperforming more expected factors such as value for money and innovation.
