Two Piper Alderman partners have been appointed to organisations within their areas of expertise, both locally and overseas.

Corporate partner and head of the firm's national agribusiness practice group, Simon Venus, was appointed by state Agriculture Minister Michael O'Brien as a member of South Australia's inaugural Agribusiness Council.

The Council, comprising state and national leaders from a cross-section of agribusiness-related industries, was established to act as a conduit between government and industry to ensure the sustainable growth of agriculture in the state. It will hold its first meeting at Parliament House in early September.

"The Council will be a valuable interface to ensure that the agribusiness sector responds to the ever-changing global economy where macro trends, such as food security, present challenges but also great opportunities," said Venus, adding that the appointment was a "great honour".

Dispute resolution partner Andrew Robertson was appointed as a panel arbitrator to the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration. The centre is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that provides a forum for the settlement of disputes by arbitration in trade, commerce and investment.

"International treaty arrangements arbitration is a highly effective mechanism to determine international commercial disputes," said Robertson, adding that alternative dispute resolution is something about which he is highly passionate.

Robertson is a former national councillor of the Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia (IAMA) where he was involved with the negotiation of Memoranda of Co-operation with Chinese and Filipino arbitral bodies, and was more recently appointed a fellow of the Philippines Institute of Arbitrators.
