South African company acquires national wholesaler

South African company acquires national wholesaler

Mark Burger

A global firm advised a South African-based investment holding company on the acquisition of an Australian wholesaler.

Firms: DLA Piper (Coast2Coast Capital); Maddocks (Susskind and Danziger)

Deal: Coast2Coast Capital purchased Australian home furnishings wholesaler Susskind and Danziger.

Value: Undisclosed

Area: Finance and projects

Key players: DLA Piper corporate partner Mark Burger (pictured) led the legal team advising Coast2Coast Capital, which included assistance from senior associate Dylan Burke and solicitor Jason Choi, and advice from finance and projects partner Monique Stella and solicitor Isabella Barnes.

Deal significance: The company acquired by Coast2Coast Capital is an Australian home furnishings wholesaler that operates Albi – a leading supplier to the kitchenware and homeware industries throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The deal was the first Australian acquisition made by Coast2Coast Capital, which was founded in 2007 by value investors Gary Shayne and Cris Dillon.

“We’re pleased to have advised Coast2Coast Capital on their first acquisition here in Australia, as they continue to pursue their innovative and entrepreneurial investment strategy, seeking opportunities in new markets,” Mr Burger said.

Coast2Coast Capital is based in South Africa and has international offices in Poland and Australia.
