Value: No set dollar figure, however there is close to 4000MW of renewable projects to bid for, which is in the billions.

Key players: Damian McNair, head of finance & projects in Australia, led the DLA Piper team

Deal significance: The South African Government has committed to generating 42 per cent of all new electricity from renewable energy resources over the next 20 years; an aggressive target by international standards. Technologies under consideration include solar, wind, hydro, biomass and biogas. DLA Piper's Australian team worked in close partnership with South African firm DLA Cliffe Decker Hofmeyr.
