Professor suspended for alleged sextra-curricular activity

Folklaw is always a little disappointed when its subjects descend into cliché...

And nothing is more clichéd than a professor giving a student better grades because the pair are having an affair. I mean, how many movies have we seen this storyline in?

National University of Singapore associate professor of law Tey Tsun Hang must be hoping he is in a bad movie, as he has been charged with corruption for allegedly trading better grades for sex with a female student.

It is alleged the student gave Tsun Hang, 41, a Mont Blanc pen, two tailored shirts, an Apple iPod Touch and had sex with him twice, according to a charge sheet filed at the Subordinate Courts of Singapore.

Folklaw is choosing to believe the alleged gifts were given out of love and generosity, as opposed to any seedier reasons.

Tsun Hang, who didn’t enter a plea when he appeared in court last week, has said he will contest the charges “fearlessly and vigorously”, Bloomberg reported. For his sake we hope he wasn’t doing anything else “vigorously” in the recent past.

Tsun Hang has been suspended by the National University of Singapore and they are investigating the claims.

He faces a maximum fine of $US80,000 and a jail term of as long as five years for each of the six corruption charges if he is convicted.
