"Foolery, sir, does walk about the orb like the sun; it shines everywhere," penned Shakespeare. But as one Canadian man has proven, foolery not only walks, but dresses up in brightly coloured garb and drives around crashing into police vehicles.

A West Vancouver police officer was on a regular evening patrol after midnight last weekend, when he noticed a driver acting erratically, before the driver then crossed onto the wrong side of the road and crashed directly into his patrol car.

Upon further investigation, the driver, who had been travelling between 20-30 km/hr prior to the crash, was found to be dressed in large shoes and a clown costume.

"This is not a working clown or a professional clown. We understand he was dressed as a clown with a frizzy, yellow clown wig, and wearing oversized clown sneakers for a Halloween function," local Constable Jeff Palmer told the Vancouver Province.

"It's a rather unusual impaired investigation," Palmer said.

The wannabe clown was later charged with impaired driving and refusing to submit to a breath test.

Folklaw was relieved to hear there were no injuries sustained during the crash - perhaps assisted by the fact the rogue clown had decided to leave his fifteen or so companions back at the circus.
