Known as the Legally MAD Cup, the event was restricted to female competitors only. Under a somewhat suspect name for a team of lawyers — ‘Row Like You Stole Something’ — the Phillips Fox crew was composed of Nikki Wood, Di Mailer, Annamie Hale and Simone Goldstein. The team defeated seven other law firm crews, including those from Blake Dawson Waldron and Baker & McKenzie in the A Final.

The event was held on the Maribyrnong River as part of the larger MAD Regatta, a well-known fixture on the Melbourne social rowing calendar. It is hoped that with an increased level of interest, the Legally MAD Cup will expand into a larger competition, including a division open to male crews.

Teams compete in quad sculls after receiving at least five one-hour training sessions from established coaches.

A spokesperson for Phillips Fox said the firm was pleased to have its new name on a trophy so soon after adopting it on 20 November.
