Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, the top-ranked US firm by turnover, has commenced a major dismissal of its 2,000 non-lawyer employees, reports The Am Law Daily.

Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, the top-ranked US firm by turnover, has commenced a major dismissal of its 2,000 non-lawyer employees, reports The Am Law Daily.

The layoffs will affect staff attorneys as well as legal assistants, paralegals and secretaries. The AM Law Daily reports the redundancies do not exceed more than 5 per cent of Skadden employees in the nine US offices, and that the firm is expecting numbers even lower than that.

No associates have been affected by the cuts, and the firm is not thought to be considering lawyer layoffs outside its staff attorney ranks.

About 25 staff positions have been cut from Skadden’s Washington DC office, and office head Michael Rogan said the reductions were made for economic reasons.
