LAWYERS from across Australia will be heading for the snowy peaks this weekend as the profession’s ski and snowboard race kicks off in Thredbo.

The 19-year running event is organised as a non-profit race by a string of high-ranking Sydney lawyers. Mallesons Stephen Jaques’ Robert Gibson, Clayton Utz’s Amy Hills and Luis Izzo, DLA Phillips Fox’s Therese Quinn, Simpsons’ Chris Chow, Blake Dawson’s Carly White and even ASIC’s Michael Pelosi are on the legal skiiers panel of organisers, among others.

The weekend-long event attracts more than 200 lawyers to the starting gate, but at least another 100 attend the presentation dinner in the Kosciusko Room at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel.

The legal-only race also permits judges, paralegals and other legal practicitioners, the rules state.

The lawyers join teams of between three and four racers, so in the past larger firm and chamber groups have entered several groups. The New Lawyer will report on the ski race next week.
