THE LEGAL profession was well represented in the recently announced Queen’s Birthday 2005 Honours List.

Justice Marilyn Warren received the highest honour and was admitted as a Companion in the Order of Australia for her service to the judiciary and the legal profession, related particularly to the social and economic conditions of women. She was honoured, as well, for her service to the University of NSW and to music.

Gilbert + Tobin managing partner Danny Gilbert was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to the law and the community, particularly Indigenous Australians. This is not the first accolade received by the managing partner. In 2003, Gilbert won a Managing Partner of the Year Award at the Australian Law Awards.

Australian Lawyers Alliance president Tom Goudkamp was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his services to the legal profession, in recognition of his work for both the Alliance and the Law Society of NSW.

Goudkamp dedicated the award to the membership of the Alliance and the people it represents. “I see it as acknowledgement that these lawyers work very hard and give up a lot of their time to help protect and promote the rights of seriously injured accident victims in Australia, and the rights and freedoms of individuals generally.”
