New start-up to move past ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach

A Sydney legal professional has launched a new law firm in the hopes to make a change towards the way legal services are provided.

Janya Eighani (pictured) successfully unveiled Lehman Walsh Lawyers last year – a self-described start-up and general corporate law practice which advises companies at any stage of growth and of any shape or size.

Since its inception, the new firm has worked one-on-one with sole-operating entrepreneurs and has also provided services to companies with over 10,000 employees.

Talking about her decision to launch her own firm, Ms Eighani, who is the principal solicitor at Lehman Walsh Lawyers said: “I graduated from ANU GDLP course in 2013 and commenced my legal practice as a solicitor between 2013 and 2016”.

“In 2016, I was promoted to an associate at Capital Lawyers. I was the first female associate ever promoted at Capital Lawyers, and the youngest female associate.

“In June 2016, I started my law firm, Lehman Walsh Lawyers in Sydney. I started my law firm to make a change towards the way we provide legal services.”

Ms Eighani said the firm aims to incorporate flexibility and install an approach where clients aren’t examined under the same microscope.

“We act as your company's virtual legal counsel with the added flexibility of letting the client decide how often they require our input and assistance, without having to commit to a long-term and expensive retainer,” she said.

“We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to legal services. Our client’s strategic and business objectives guide the way we provide our services.

“Examples include spending a period of time with our clients at their premises and assisting on a full-time basis, attending important meetings with the management team to offer immediate legal advice or the provision of training for staff members.”

In addition, Ms Eighani said the firm’s flexible compensation structures allow a degree of flexibility that the traditional law firms cannot compete with.

“We offer fixed fee services, where possible, so our clients know exactly how much to budget for legal expenses,” she said.

“In tackling more complex legal matters, such as litigation, we work closely with our clients to monitor the potential expenses and can provide ‘event costed’ estimates, where we charge for specific stages of the litigation (eg preparing pleadings, evidence, engaging counsel and final hearing).

“We will do all that we can to make sure that our clients succeed and work towards the longevity of our relationship with our clients.”
