THE FORMER Secretary General of the Law Council of Australia, Michael Lavarch, has found his new calling. He will begin as the Dean of Queensland University of Technology’s (QUT) law faculty on 15 March.

As Commonwealth Attorney-General in the Keating Government, Lavarch dealt with issues including human rights and native title. And as an MP for nine years, he also chaired the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs between 1990 and 1993.

QUT vice chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake praised the new Dean’s “remarkable blend of professional linkages, managerial experience and scholarly interests”.
