Gadens refused to respond to rumours about redundancies at the firm when approached by Lawyers Weekly on Tuesday, with a spokesperson indicating only that there were "some comings and goings".

Lawyers Weekly had been tipped off that some redundancies had occurred in Gaden's Sydney office, including positions as high as senior associate.

Comment was also sought in regard to rumours that the firm had been considering implementing a four-day working week for some staff members.

"We have been approached by some staff who are keen to improve their work/life balance by working less days per week. We are also discussing part-time work with a few professional and non-professional staff, but no arrangements have been made and no direction issued or planned," the spokesperson said.

Gadens said its Sydney fees were travelling ahead of projections for the year to date and for last month and that five new people had been hired in the last two months.

"There are some comings and goings, but nothing outside the usual very low turnover rate we are famous for - ie well below 10 per cent," the spokesperson said.
