In a recent news review, Lawyers Weekly spoke to three lawyers who had made the more unusual transition of moving from the bar to take up positions as private practice solicitors — which got Lawyers Weekly thinking: which lawyers really do have the best jobs?

It was certainly a closer contest than some of our previous polls, and admittedly our respondents do come primarily from private practice law firms. However, the top choice, with 35 per cent of the votes, was still “private practice solicitors”. Though “barristers” were leading the way in the early days, they eventually came in second place with 30 per cent of votes. “In-house counsel” were next, with 23 per cent of respondents saying they had the top job, followed by public sector solicitors, who scored just 12 per cent of votes.
