The Albanese government has appointed 35 new general members to the ART, which was established in 2024 as a fully independent body responsible for reviewing decisions affecting the lives of Australians.

The new appointments, the A-G’s Department said, will help ensure all cases are being heard fairly, effectively, and efficiently while ensuring the tribunal’s work remains accessible and responsive to the diverse needs of all parties.

Speaking about the appointments, A-G Rowland said: “The Administrative Review Tribunal is an independent federal administrative review body that reviews decisions that directly affect the everyday lives of Australians. It is crucial that the people who hear and decide these cases have the required experience and expertise.

“Each general member was assessed as suitable for appointment through a transparent and merit-based process. The appointments will contribute to ensuring cases are effectively and efficiently heard, and to avoiding unnecessary delays for applicants.

“I am extremely pleased to announce the appointments of these general members and thank them for their willingness to serve the Australian public.”

The new general members are Rachael Adolphe, Dr M Ehteshamul Bari, Rosalinda Casamento, Lisa Coffey, Maria Cristoffanini, Alison Dayman, Phillip Davies, Alan Duri, Andrew Field, Sarah Fisher, Estelle Frawley, Jane Goddard, Dilhari Gustavino, Peter Harris, Parastou Hatami, Amanda Hickey, Meredith Jackson, Anjum Kasmani, Dr Niamh Kinchin, Dr Jackie King, Stephanie Lee, Alicia Le’Roy, Stella Lesic, Justin Moyes, Elizabeth Needham, Ashley Ngion, Stacey Parker, Leah Perkins, France Prasad, Jason Rafeeq, Dr Susannah Sage Jacobson, Dr Nikolas Tan, Heidi Thomas, Dr Helen Watchirs OAM, and Katy Welch.

Each general member was appointed in accordance with section 208 of the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024, the A-G’s Department noted, and was originally assessed as suitable for appointment by an independent assessment panel in accordance with the act and Administrative Review Regulations 2024.
