Elsewhere, 35 new general members were appointed, who will also help “ensure all cases continue to be heard fairly, effectively, and efficiently while ensuring the ART’s work remains accessible and responsive to the diverse needs of all parties”, the government noted.

Speaking about the appointments, Attorney-General Michelle Rowland said: “The Administrative Review Tribunal is an independent federal administrative review body that reviews decisions that directly affect the everyday lives of Australians. It is crucial that the people who hear and decide these cases have the required experience and expertise.
“Each general member appointed today was assessed as suitable for appointment through a transparent and merit-based process. These appointments will ensure review processes are fair, just, and independent by hearing a range of cases to support applicants in addressing their matters.
“I would like to congratulate these judicial deputy presidents and general members on their appointments, and I thank them for their important service to the Australian public.”
Each general member was appointed in accordance with section 208 of the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024 and was assessed as suitable for appointment by an independent assessment panel in accordance with the act and Administrative Review Regulations 2024, the government said in a statement.
