The Albanese government has appointed four new judges to the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2).
Four new judges have joined Division 2 of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, all of whom will commence in their new roles on 3 February.
The four new judges are Corey Jenkins (Townsville registry), Amelia Edwards and Philippa Mitchell (Melbourne registry), and Frances Neilson (Parramatta registry).
Jenkins has been a senior judicial registrar of FCFCOA since 2021 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2009.
Mitchell has been a partner at Clayton Utz since 2017 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia in 2005.
Neilson has been a senior judicial registrar of FCFCOA since 2022 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW in 1992 and to the High Court of Australia in 1993.
Edwards has been a national judicial registrar of FCFCOA since 2023. She was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia in 2011.
Speaking about the appointments, Attorney-General Michelle Rowland said: “I congratulate Ms Amelia Edwards, Mr Corey Jenkins, Ms Philippa Mitchell and Ms Frances Neilson on their appointments and thank them for their willingness to serve the Australian community.”
The federal government “thanks each new judge for their willingness to serve the people of Australia”, the A-G’s Department noted in a statement.
