A “legal aid crisis” has spurred hundreds of robed barristers and other lawyers to make a public protest tomorrow.

The lawyers and other legal aid supporters will rally to call for “the urgent need for increased legal aid funding” outside the Victorian County Court on Wednesday.

The picketing lawyers will call on both State and Federal Governments to improve the “dire state” of legal aid funding in next month’s Budgets, the Law Institute of Victoria has announced.

Supporters will be able to be identified by the “Legal Aid Matters” buttons they will be wearing.

According to the LIV, Australian lawyers and social welfare organisation are concerned the current legal aid funding crisis is affecting the delivery of justice for society’s most vulnerable members. This, it said, includes children caught in family law disputes.
